SPW Heavyweight Championship
Champion: “Extreme Luchador” La Sombra
Current champion La Sombra has turned away numerous challengers since winning the big one in January 2012. Closing in on the six month anniversary of his reign he’s successfully defended the title against the likes of Spanky, Moses Luke, James Beaver, Kevy Chevy, Ike Idol, Mr. Nasty and Matt Fairlane.
Defining a single No.1 Contender is a difficult task however a definitive contender will emerge on August 25th, 2012 when the City of Selkirk presents the 5th annual Red River Rumble. Traditionally the winner of the Red River Rumble is named the official No.1 contender to the SPW Heavyweight Championship. Matt Fairlane won the rumble in 2008 and became champion the next month while La Sombra won the rumble in 2011 and became champion a few months later. Who will win the 2012 Red River Rumble? Who will emerge as the No.1 Contender? Will they be the next SPW Heavyweight Champion?
SPW Provincial Championship
Champion: “Misfit” Mike Mission
A new contender to the SPW Provincial Championship will be decided this Friday at Summer Slamathon when James Beaver challenges Cory Diamond in a No.1 Contender’s Match. The winner of that singles encounter will go on to challenge current champion “Misfit” Mike Mission at a later date, perhaps as early as August 24th when SPW kicks off the 2012 Red River Rumble Tour in Gimli, Manitoba. Winning his first singles championship during the SPW 4th Anniversary Tour, you can bet that “Misfit” Mike Mission won’t go quietly into the night and let either man walk away with the SPW Provincial Championship without a fight. Who will it be; Beaver or Diamond? We’ll find out this Friday at Summer Slamathon 2012!
SPW Tag Team Championships
Champions: SYKO and Son of Syko
No team has been as dominant as SYKO and Son of Syko have been, reigning as the SPW Tag Team Champions since September 2011. With each passing day they inch closer and closer to an entire year on top of the SPW tag team division. While they’ve turned away a number of viable challengers none have been as much of a threat as the Sons of Anarchy comprised of Big Cliff Corleone, a former SPW Tag Team Champion, and Billy Blaze. Unable to dethrone the champions at Hurts So Good IV in June they get a second chance this Friday at Summer Slamathon 2012. Is the end near for SYKO and Son of Syko or will they continue to stranglehold the tag team ranks?
SPW Hardcore Championship
Champion: “Hardcore Kid” Chip Fletcher
The title has only been around since later April but inaugural champion “Hardcore Kid” Chip Fletcher is already into his second reign as titlist having defeated Sydney Manson on July 1st at Canada Day Clash. For Manson the SPW Hardcore Championship represented his first title in a 12+ year career, a title he won in Morden, only miles from his home at the Eden Asylum in Winkler. For Fletcher the SPW Hardcore Championship has been a symbol of resurgence for his wrestling career, breathing new life and energy into his ring exploits. While some may consider Sydney Manson the top contender, it may be time for SPW officials to name a new No.1 Contender to test Fletcher mettle as a 2-time champion.
SPW Women’s Championship
Champion: Mystik Sexton
The inaugural champion was decided in a one night tournament back in January, won by Ann Brookstone who lost the title a few short days later to Mystik Sexton. Since that time Sexton has been travelling the Midwestern United States defending the SPW Women’s Championship against all comers. During her absence from the SPW ring, Alexis Anderson has risen as No.1 Contender with a series of wins in both singles and inter-gender competition. SPW officials hope to sign an SPW Women’s Championship match between Alexis Anderson and the champion in time for the 2012 Red River Rumble Tour, fitting considering the Wild Women of SPW were launched as an official division during the 2010 Red River Rumble! One questions remains, however, who will SPW Women’s Champion? SPW officials have signed off on a special challenge match between former Ann Brookstone and current champion Mystik Sexton to take place in Minnesota sometime in the next few weeks. Who will walk into the 2012 Red River Rumble Tour as defending champion, Brookstone or Sexton?
Red River Rumble 2012
The 5th annual edition of the Red River Rumble, one of the biggest events of the year, is a little over one month away and already Steeltown Pro’s top stars are in preparation mode. The winner of the Rumble will go on to be named the official No. 1 Contender to the SPW Heavyweight Championship. Past winner like Matt Fairlane and La Sombra both went on to become champion. SPW officials are discussing making the Rumble open to everyone including both male and female competitors perhaps even, the debuting Wild Women of SPW Mighty Midgets and a former WWE Superstar.
