James Beaver made one this clear during the 2012 Kerry Brown Memorial Tournament; he was after the SPW Heavyweight Championship by any means necessary. After losing to then champion La Sombra in the opening round of the tournament, Beaver attacked La Sombra on two occasions; once after his loss to La Sombra and again as La Sombra was set to face Rob Stardom in the semi-finals of the tournament. As result, La Sombra lost the SPW Heavyweight Championship to Rob Stardom and was eliminated from the tournament but it didn’t end there. During the finals between Stardom and Hawg, Beaver interjected himself one more time making sure everyone understand that he wanted to be champion at any cost.
Rob Stardom was the benefactor to all the chaos James Beaver caused. Easy pickings with a battered and beaten La Sombra, Stardom picked the bones like a vulture to win the SPW Heavyweight Championship and ensure his place in the finals of the tournament against Jethro Hawg. After a near 20 minute battle with Danny Duggan in the opening round who knows how Stardom would have faired against a healthy La Sombra. History has proven that La Sombra is more than capable of defeating Stardom. On this night, however, the tide was in favour of Stardom and he took full advantage to become the new SPW Heavyweight Champion.
Less than an hour after defeating La Sombra, Rob Stardom was set to face Jethro Hawg in the finals of the 2012 Kerry Brown Memorial Tournament with the SPW Heavyweight Champion hanging in the balance. While James Beaver interjected himself in the match so did La Sombra to even the odds. After a back and forth battle, Hawg was able to score the pinfall on Stardom to win the tournament and the championship. It was a moment of glory for Jethro Hawg who had questioned himself whether or not he had what it took after so many years in the professional wrestling business.
The biggest loser in the entire scenario, though happy for his friend Jethro Hawg, was La Sombra who felt robbed of his SPW Heavyweight Championship he fought so hard to win and even harder to retain over the course of 8 months. Had it not been for James Beaver, La Sombra may have successfully defended the championship against Stardom, he may have faced Hawg in the tournament finals, and he may have won the tournament for a second year in a row. Between James Beaver and Rob Stardom, however, the odds were too great and La Sombra suffered at the hands of defeat.
Jethro Hawg has had a phenomenal 2012 winning the 5th annual Red River Rumble, the 3rd annual Kerry Brown Memorial Tournament and the SPW Heavyweight Championship. There was a time when Hawg believed he was in the twilight of his career, reflecting fondly on the past rather than looking optimistically at the future. In a few short months the landscape of his life has dramatically changed, he’s the center of all the attention and he possesses the biggest target in SteeltownPro, the SPW Heavyweight Championship.
As fallout to the 2012 Kerry Brown Memorial Tournament, these four men’s paths became fully intertwined with one another, each path set for the same destination: the SPW Heavyweight Championship. All four men’s actions sent ripple effects throughout Steeltown Pro Wrestling that changed the entire face of the company. With that in mind, SPW officials decided to take all four men and put them in the ring at the same time to air our their problems with the ultimate prize, the SPW Heavyweight Championship, up for grabs.
