Steeltown Stories by John Henry (10/09/12)

First off, welcome to my new blog for SteeltownProWrestling.ca!

It’s been quite the year for Steeltown Pro Wrestling with the busiest schedule of live events since 2009 and far more double shot and triple shot weekend than ever. Since 2008 I’ve been SPW’s Operations Manager, serving directly under SPW President Dale Barnett. Since that time I’ve taken on a number of projects within the wrestling industry and I owe it all to SPW.

We have hundreds of hours of video available through DVD’s and our YouTube channel, we’ve been featured in regional and provincial newspapers, wrestling news sites, documentaries and TV news magazine shows. I’m proud to say we were the first Canadian wrestling promotion to release an internet PPV through GFL Combat Sports (GoFightLive).

As it stands we have a few immediate goals that we are closing in one; promoting the 100th live event and celebrating our 5th anniversary. At 95 live events we’re five shows away from hitting 100 and the 5th anniversary is already set for April 2013. The idea of re-launching a weekly series, for traditional broadcast or online, has been bounced around over the last six months, too and I know Barnett wants to do a week long tour sometime next year. We’ve accomplished a lot but there are still plenty of milestones we can reach.

One of my pet projects has been online media and marketing. On that front I believe SteeltownPro has had a strong presence. When I re-launched SteeltownProWrestling.ca I didn’t realize what an impact it could have, the numbers are staggering with more than 3,500 page views in August and nearly a thousand more than that in September. Our Facebook group page has more than 3,000 members and we have more than 800 Twitter followers. As it stands I’m trying to promote and grow our official Facebook Page that was launched last month. Even our YouTube channel has some impressive numbers with more than 34,000 video views. Not too shabby!

I’ve lived by Dale Barnett’s creeds of taking it one baby step at a time and constant consistent growth over peaks and valleys. They’ve allowed me set a pace and to set a reasonable expectancy for my performance as a dedicated employee. When SPW launched it was in it for the long haul, not to fizzle out and fade away after a few events. Closing in on our 100th event and 5th anniversary I’d say, so far, that’s what we’ve done.

With no events scheduled for October, I look forward to our bi-annual classic Halloweenpalooza on November 4th at the Casa Do Minho Portuguese Centre (1080 Wall Street, Winnipeg, MB). We already have a costume contest and a huge main event announced with plenty more to come. What a year it’s been and best of all, it’s not over yet!
