2012 SPW Tag Team of the Year Award
For the first time ever, SteeltownProWrestling.ca will present the Tag Team of the Year Award! Since 2008 SPW has given out the Wrestler of the Year Award along with a SPW Lifetime Achievement Award.
Recipients of the award will be chosen by an open vote on SteeltownProWrestling.ca beginning in January and ending at the end of the month. The nominees chosen for the 2012 SPW Tag Team of the Year Award are:
SYKO & Son of Syko
Simply put the father-son duo dominated the SPW tag team division in 2012. They were champions for 364 days before losing them at the end of September and quickly regaining them for their second reign as a team at the beginning of November. By the next SPW live event they will have held the championships for a combined 432 days since first winning them on September 24, 2011.
Sons of Anarchy (Billy Blaze & Big Cliff Corleone)
The Sons of Anarchy are the most popular team in SPW, bar none. Since their formation they’ve consistently been top contenders to the SPW Tag Team Championships and are poised to win them in 2013. If any team can put the champions to rest, it’s the Sons of Anarchy. With size, power and speed they have all the tools needed to lead the division.
Spawns of Spalding (Samuel & Zamil)
Enigmatic only begins to describe this masked duo. Generally speaking, these two are more concerned with inflicting punishment than winning matches whether it’s a tag team affair or multi-man SPW Hardcore Championship match.
Mike Mission & Cory Diamond
After several attempts made earlier in 2012 to win the SPW Tag Team Championships, Mission and Diamond succeeded in September of this year. Unfortunately they were unable to retain the gold, losing them back to SYKO & Son of Syko. That being said they have been the only team able to dethrone the champs for 15 months (and counting).
Rob Stardom & MARIUS
The part-time team of Rob Stardom and MARIUS had better success as singles competitors in 2012 with only a handful of tag team matches against the likes of Danny Duggan & Tommy Lee Curtis and Robbie McAllister & Chris West. Away from singles action and dedicated to the tag team division these two could quickly make an impact if they chose.
Leo & David London
Leo London and his rookie brother David London struggled to find their footing as a tag team against bigger teams such as SYKO & Son of Syko, the Sons of Anarchy and the Spawns of Spalding. Leo London has shown potential as both a singles and tag team competitor and may be looking to make a fresh start in 2013.
