THE SPOTLIGHT: ROB STARDOM |
There aren’t many wrestlers on the SteeltownPro roster that have been there from the very beginning but Rob Stardom is definitely one of them. So much so that he’s only ever missed ONE Steeltown Pro Wrestling live event since April 2008.
During his time in SPW he’s accomplished quite a bit. He was in the finals of the SPW Heavyweight Championship finals, he was leader of the Family of Darkness that gave birth to the rise of both MARIUS and SYKO, he won the TRCW Championship while it was sanctioned in SPW, he won the 2009 Red River Rumble, was in the finals of the 3rd annual Kerry Brown Memorial Tournament, won the 2012 Christmas Battle Bowl and held the SPW Heavyweight Championship, albeit for a brief period.
Stardom’s list of opponents and numerous main event matches are nothing to slouch over either. He’s had phenomenal main event matches with the likes of Matt Fairlane, Jon Cutler, his protégé MARIUS and bloody brawls with Canadian independent wrestling legend Chi Chi Cruz. He’s been in the ring with the likes of former TNA World Champion Austin Aries, former ECW World Champion Raven, former WWE Superstar Robbie McAllister, former WWE World Tag Team Champion Eugene and WWE Legend’s Rick Martel and Honky Tonk Man.
In 2011 we saw Rob Stardom struggle. Losing a string of matches over several months Stardom began to question himself for the first, going so far as contemplating retirement, a thought that had never entered his mind before. Throughout 2012, however, things began to improve with Stardom scoring a mix of wins and losses as he started to return to his old confident self. By late 2012, Stardom reignited his winning way, briefly holding the SPW Heavyweight Champion before losing it to Jethro Hawg.
That brief moment with the gold seems to have ignited a new fire under Rob Stardom. He got a taste at SPW’s greatest prize and he wants more. Finishing out 2012 with a string of victories and television appearances, Rob Stardom won the final SPW match of the year, the Christmas Battle Bowl. As a result, Rob Stardom will be awarded a championship match of his choosing anytime in the New Year. Not only does he covet the SPW Heavyweight Championship, he’s guaranteed at least one chance to possess it again.
Rob Stardom positioned himself well to begin 2013 with plenty of momentum. SPW kicks of 2013 on January 11th at the Selkirk Memorial Hall and a second event the next night on January 12th at the Casa do Minho. Does Stardom intend to kick off the New Year in strong fashion by dethroning Jethro Hawg and becoming a 2-time SPW Heavyweight Champion? Or will he play coy, implementing a sound strategy until the time is just right?
2013 may end up being the Year of Stardom.
