Above we see Omar as his alter ego, "The Masked Messenger". He originality created this character to entertain his son in the hospital, but later it came to life on the NBW shows. The Messenger's catch phrase was that he would "Deliver The Goods". That's where the idea for the show came from.
SPW to run benefit show for family of former wrestling promoter
On Saturday, June 1st, @ 7:30pm, SPW will present "Delivering The Goods", a benefit show for Omar Nicholas and his family. Omar is the former owner of New Brand Wrestling. In 2010 and 2011 Omar promoted regular wrestling shows at the Ellice Theatre in downtown Winnipeg, retiring in January of 2012 due to health concerns. On Thursday, April 18th of last week Omar was rushed to the hospital by ambulance suffering severe chest pains and breathing difficulties. Omar would later tell me that he almost died that night. When he was stabilized, he was sent to the Victoria Hospital where he is now. During his time there he was sent to both the St Boniface and Misericordia Hospitals for further tests. Omar has a 25 year old son named Stephen. Stephen is a quadrapalegic. He can't speak and will be hospitalized the rest of his life. He is at the Health Sciences Center.Omar's wife Stella is having a hard time getting from hospital to hospital. She doesn't have a vehicle. Stella herself has had chemotherapy treatment for a recurrence of a cancer that returned last year. On June 1st, SPW will do a benefit show for the Nicholas family. The family will recieve 100% of the money taken in at the door that night. I will personally cover the hall rental fee and all other related costs to make the show possible.
