Steeltown Stories by John Henry (12/19/12)

It’s been pretty quiet in the office this week with the business of Christmas taking over. It’s not all chestnuts and open fires though as we are still working on the first shows of 2013, a double shot on January 11th and 12th.

It was quietly announced in the last major SPW Bulletin that former WWE Superstar Robbie McAllister would be making his SteeltownPro return. McAllister debuted for SPW during the 2012 Red River Rumble Tour this past August. He scored major victories over current SPW Provincial Champion MARIUS and current No. 1 Contender to the SPW Heavyweight Championship, Rob Stardom. Will he be gunning for a championship upon his return?

Voting for the 2012 SPW Wrestler of the Year Award is ongoing with MARIUS leading the pack followed by Jethro Hawg. Both men had an incredible year but the dark horse for the award has to be Chip Fletcher who’s been getting his fare share of votes. Voting ends on December 31st with the winner officially announced during the first week of January 2013.

I’d like to give a shout out to Shawn Northstar who is still on the injured list after breaking his orbital bone during a match. Since receiving the injury Northstar has gone for multiple surgeries but is maintaining good spirits. As he continues to recover everyone here at Steeltown Pro Wrestling wants to wish him the best and we all look forward to seeing him in our locker room and back in the ring.

A lot of talk throughout Canada has been the NHL/NHLPA lock-out. In the centuries of its existence as a touring attraction, professional wrestling has never been subject to a lock-out or a labour strike. The men and women in the industry work hard all year round, rain or shine. From the biggest star to the newest trainee, more than any dollar amount, they do it because they love the business and have true passion for professional wrestling and that’s what it should really be about. Sometimes money clouds judgement and makes you forget the love of the game.

The New Year will mark SPW’s 5th season in operation as we embark on the road towards the 5th anniversary show in April. A lot of faces have come and gone during that time and I hope as many of them as possible can make it down to the 5th anniversary show as it will be a celebration of everyone’s hard work and dedication. I don’t know for sure but I really hope the event is held at the Selkirk Memorial Hall. After all, 376 Jemima Street in Selkirk is where it all began!

Yes, there are rumours of SPW TV tapings in the New Year. Yes they do have merit to them. That’s about all I can say about that.

On behalf of everyone in Steeltown Pro Wrestling I’d like to wish you all a Merry Christmas (and happy Hanukah) as well as a happy New Year. We hope you can safely spend plenty of time with family and friends.
