Steeltown Stories by John Henry

If SPW’s first two live events were anything, they were hectic, at least from where I was sitting. January 11th and 12th marked SPW’s first two live events of 2013 all while being official TV tapings for an upcoming Steeltown Pro Wrestling television series that is currently in production. The fact that we filmed nearly 35 matches in two days should be a clear sign that it was a busy weekend.

A lot happened over the course of two days. A snow storm caused a few cancellations as some wrestlers were stranded due to bad weather and closed roads. A few of the guys were having car troubles to top it all off. SPW saw the crowning of a few champions too! I was really impressed with Robbie McAllister. He was very hands on, hard working and committed to make an impact for SPW’s upcoming TV debut. I hope to see him back in SPW in the near future.

Attendance on Friday for our Selkirk return was certainly affected by the weather. Terrible road conditions certainly were discouraging. That being said we still had a good turn-out and those in attendance were in for a night of bell-to-bell wrestling action. With more favourable weather the next night in Winnipeg, attendance was near standing room only for a wild night of wrestling. Of the two nights, Saturday’s TV taping was certainly the wildest. There was a bit of everything for everyone; brawls, high flying, weapons, women, blood, championship matches, new champions and more.

As the footage gets edited and produced, I get anxious to announce more details regarding the TV project and even more anxious to see the final product on-air. While producing TV isn’t a completely new experience for SPW having a terrestrial television distributor is. In the past SPW TV was made available on-line through SteeltownProWrestling.ca, YouTube, BlogTV and GFL Combat Sports. And while SPW has been featured on TV this would be the first time that we have an entire series dedicated to the promotion.

And if the first 2 TV tapings are of any indication things are shaking up in SPW. Old faces are trying to re-establish themselves as main event players while new faces are trying to prove they belong at the top. Let’s not forget about the Wild Women of SPW either, they’re more than ready to mix it up in 2013.

With the first two shows behind us we look forward to February 8th and 9th in Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes and Arborg respectively.
